At the heart of community is trust.
In our ongoing transformation back to the heart of childhood,
we seek
to share,
to banish secrets,
and
ascend past our narrow egos.
In this open space of sincerity,
we are freed
to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and body
and
love our neighbors as ourselves.
Loving God and neighbor are the foundation stones of the Hermitage:

offering prayers for people worldwide who have asked for them
-
cleansing toxins from our part of God's sacred Creation
-
providing healthy and nourishing food to the wider community
-
feeding the hungry who struggle to buy wholesome food
-
and offering ourselves to each other as a safe, unselfish place

Farming is expensive, so we defray these costs
with nearly 100% of the labor coming from the hermits.
We underwrite our annual shortfalls from our monthly Social Security
and
from our individual savings.
As we have invited our readers and listeners into our lives
asking for their assistance,
we open our financial records detailing all these things
from the time we left Haiti to settle in Polynesia
—
first as a Franciscan religious community
and
then
as a Hermitage of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia
—
to the present time.

These third-century saints were
known as "the silverless"
because they offered their medical practice free of charge
to their patients.
The Sisters are also "silverless,"
serving Haiti as Registered Nurses without pay for decades
and
today.
In particular, Sr. Mary Anne
developed a small outreach in Southwest Haiti which we became the region's
principal medical provider
in addition to its ongoing offerings of providing food, clothing, and education.
Please note as you review our financial records that our 501(c)(3) public charity,
Franciscan Hermitage Ministries,
did not continue into 2020.
The IRS requires that at least one-third of a public charity's expenses be supported
by public contributions.
Perhaps the CDC announcement of a global pandemic (February 25, 2020)
cast a pall over work like ours.
Our non-profit, certified organic, agricultural ministry
is now being carried forward by
the Hermitage Farm
and
staffed by the Sisters and their chaplain.
